The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a sales phenomenon here in the UK where the key figures, as supplied by Mitsubishi, give us many of the reasons behind its success. Unlike purely electric vehicles (EVs) which still suffer from a lack of serious range the Outlander should keep going for over 500 miles before filling up. The official figure of 156mpg is up on the 2015 model whilst emissions of 42g/km CO2 are excellent for a vehicle of this size and stature. Is it really any surprise that the Mitsubishi has captured the public’s imagination in quite such a way?
And now Mitsubishi have another feather in their cap as Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is celebrating after the lauded Outlander PHEV picked up Next Green Car’s SUV of the Year.
For those that don’t know, Next Green Car is a website dedicated to helping car buyers find, compare and purchase a greener, more economical car. The annual Next Green Car Awards identify the greenest and best new cars of the year.
It’s especially gratifying for MotorMartin to see that manufacturers, like Mitsubishi, are now being bold and forward thinking with their vehicles and are showing their customers that being green does not have to mean putting up with serious compromises in practicality.
Explaining why the Outlander PHEV was singled out, Next Green Car said:

The combination of the Outlander PHEV’s powerful electric motors and petrol engine give it a smooth, quiet, refined ride with the potential of reaching 156mpg. It only emits 42g/km C02 which means a no Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). Most significantly, the entry model Outlander PHEV is available to buy at the same price as its diesel equivalent, with prices starting at £29,249.
Well done then Mitsubishi for continuing to refine the original Outlander PHEV so that the 2016 model can now be called an award winner as well as being a fabulous sales success.
