News: WHAT’S IN A NAME?

One of the cars that MotorMartin has been looking forward to most over these last few months has been the all new MG GS. The fantastic mix of style, technology and excellent value that MG Motor UK are becoming known for is present in abundance in the GS and in MotorMartin’s eyes,  it looks fantastic. A thoroughly modern family car and I can’t wait to drive one in a few weeks time.

This time last week, MG Motor’s new SUV, the MG GS, went on sale. Since then almost 40 have been registered, orders have been taken, deposits are being made and handovers are just around the corner. Exciting times for all at MG then.

MG Motor UK have shared with MotorMartin that customers looking to bag themselves this fantastic new model may not know that MG invited the public to be part of the creative process earlier this year and that prior to announcing any details about the car, members of the public interested in hearing about the GS were given the opportunity to put forward their suggestions for trim level names. These names depict the grades of a model and differentiate the features and equipment available. In fact MotorMartin sent in his own suggestions of red, white and blue but these were left gathering dust on the shelf. Never mind.

To gain an insight into the naming process MG have informed MotorMartin that almost 2,000 names were sent in and that those that were mentioned more than once were pulled into a list and the final decision was made by MG’s creative team. The trim level names were revealed last week, along with the pricing for each one with the three chosen names being: MG GS Explore (entry level), MG GS Excite (mid level) and MG GS Exclusive (top level). Perhaps the correct decision was made after all.

Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG, explained to MotorMartin that: “We were delighted with the response we got from the public and thank everyone for their great ideas – there are a lot of creative people out there, which is what we were hoping for. The people who contributed are now part of automotive history, which is pretty exciting. We also had some of our dealers throw names in!”

“This is a really exciting time for MG and we wanted our customers to be part of it, plus it’s nice to have a say in life. When we updated the MG6 last year we considered our customers feedback, so why stop there? This car reflects fun and adventures, so we decided to take our customers on an adventure with us and have a bit of fun along the way!”

It goes without saying that the MG GS is MG Motor’s first SUV and it certainly looks like they’ve hit the jackpot with an impressive design. There are three trim levels offering customers plenty of specification for very little money, as is the way with MG, the GS is very competitive in its class with the range starting from just £14,995, whilst the top specification of the new model is available with manual or dual-clutch transmission (DCT). A first for MG Motor UK.

And for those that haven’t seen it yet, the following is MG’s very latest GS advert that premiered on Monday evening and is kindly shared from their own YouTube channel. Cheers MG. This shows perfectly the clear focus that MG had during the design process. This new SUV is a family car through and through.
