News has just arrived up on the top floor of MotorMartin Towers that friends of MotorMartin, Classic Car Auctions (CCA), will be offering a fantastic selection of rare and highly collectible fast Fords at its upcoming September Sale taking place at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on 23rd September. Excellent!

Representing the best of Brentwood’s superb eighties output, beloved of Essex wide-boys, yuppies, city slickers and MotorMartin of course, these Fords led the charge of Thatcher’s upwardly mobile youth. Now collectible cars, these icons are in high demand, as much for recalling memories of a bygone era as for their still impressive performance and have been achieving impressive prices for quite some time now.

Topping the selection of fast Fords is a 1988 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands Turbo Technics in fabulous condition following a fastidious 15 month restoration. Number 666 out of 1,038 manufactured, the classic Capri has covered just 38,000 miles, making it one of the best examples in existence, with an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000.

A number of other desirable Capris are also available, including a 1970 Mk I Ford Capri 3000 GT XLR to be offered at an estimate of £17,000 to £20,000 as one of just 27 examples thought to be left, a fabulous, unrestored 1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands reading 40,949 miles and with just two former keepers to be offered at £23,000 to £26,000, and a rare 1987 Ford Capri 2.8i Mk III Special coming from a 29 year ownership and reading just 25,000 miles, estimated at £12,000 to £15,000.

One of the defining sports saloons of the nineties, an unrestored and absolutely unmolested 1992 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4×4 reading just 28,730 miles from new will be offered with a sale estimate of £25,000 to £30,000.

With a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the four-door sport saloon is in exceptional condition and features a rear lip-spoiler, bonnet louvres and 15-inch ‘Shark Tooth’ alloys, finished in Nouveau Red Metallic with a Black leather interior and Recaro seats.

Fans of eighties hot-hatches will be spoilt for choice, with a 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series II reading just 32,000 miles. Presented as almost pristine inside and out, it is estimated at £18,000 to £22,000.

Another immaculate 1989 example finished in Mercury Grey and reading just 41,519 miles comes with RS Owners Club provenance and is estimated at £16,000 to £22,000. A 1988 example presented in Black with Grey refurbished Recaro seats is estimated at £10,000 to £12,000.

A meticulously maintained 1991 Ford Fiesta RS Turbo will also be offered at £10,000 to £12,000, and an entry-level 1984 Ford Escort 1.6i Cabriolet from long term ownership will be offered at ‘No Reserve’.

For those who prefer American muscle, a low ownership and low mileage 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback which has been sympathetically restored, yet remains largely original, is expected to achieve £25,000 to £35,000 at auction.

A striking 1965 Ford Thunderbird in white with a black interior offers acres of car, and chrome, for its estimate of £8,000 to £10,000.

“Fast Fords are among the most popular cars at our auctions, and we’re very proud of the selection we have on offer for buyers at the September Sale,” explained Gary Dunne, sales manager, CCA to MotorMartin recently.

“Our biggest ever one-day auction is a perfect opportunity for Ford fans to purchase their dream classic and we encourage potential buyers to come along for a great day out,” concludes Gary.
