We love the Outlander PHEV over at MotorMartin Towers, enjoying the excellent range and ability that this clever plug in hybrid offers the U.K. consumer. With that in mind, we’re always interested in hearing how Mitsubishi are going about improving this already impressive SUV. And now Mitsubishi have shared with us that the UK’s best-selling plug-in vehicle is now available with two new range-topping trim levels: The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 5h and 5hs.
Building on the high specification of the recently-launched 2019 4h and 4hs variants – which feature LED headlamps, DRLs and fog lamps; a heated windscreen; 360° parking camera; heated steering wheel and front seats; keyless entry and a power tailgate (plus Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Mitigation on the 4hs), the new 5h and 5hs offer additional luxury features including new, quilted Nappa leather upholstery in Claret Red, Porcelain Cream or Gunmetal Grey, a matching premium mat set; Alpine audio system, heated rear seats, LED mood lighting and an Outlander bonnet badge.
Mitsubishi have confirmed to MotorMartin that the new Outlander PHEV 5h and 5hs benefit from the same extensive revisions as the rest of the 2019 range, including a new 135hp 2.4-litre “Atkinson” cycle petrol engine and enhanced EV powertrain for improved performance and efficiency, a smoother and quieter ride plus sharper handling thanks to new shock absorbers, a quicker steering rack and a revised S-AWC vehicle dynamics system.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is also amongst the first plug-in hybrids to announce its WLTP figures of 139 MPG (159.5 NEDC), an EV range of 28 miles (33 NEDC) and CO2 emissions of just 46g/km (40.3g/km NEDC) meaning it remains classified as a category 2 Ultra Low Emission Vehicle and eligible for the UK government’s £2,500 plug-in car grant.
The icing on the cake though has to be that even with these improvements, the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 5 and 5hs is priced £500 lower than the outgoing version, starting at £41,000 OTR*.
