Subaru UK have taken the time to let MotorMartin know about their latest success with the all-new Subaru Forester e-BOXER which has won the Technology Award for its Driver Monitoring System at the 2020 What Car? Awards. The latest award to arrive soon after achieving a maximum 5 star rating in the 2019 Euro NCAP safety test.
The Driver Monitoring System, fitted as standard on all Forester e-BOXER models, is brand-new technology for Subaru and uses clever facial recognition technology to detect if the driver’s gaze has shifted away from the road, alerting vehicle occupants if this occurs.
What Car? praised Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System, calling it “the most advanced of its kind”. Subaru have confirmed to MotorMartin that during testing it proved to be more accurate at identifying when concentration was lost compared to other manufacturer systems. In addition to the clear safety benefits afforded by Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System, What Car? Have also explained that the use of facial recognition software to set things like seating position, door mirror angles and even air conditioning to the driver’s preference is a real bonus.
Chris Graham, Managing Director at Subaru UK, commented to MotorMartin recently: “We’re delighted that all-new Forester e-BOXER has won the Technology Award at the 2020 What Car? Awards. We’re fast building a reputation for building some of the safest cars on the road today, with a range of class-leading safety technologies – such as the new Driver Monitoring System – fitted to our vehicles as standard. We’re thrilled that our commitment to building incredibly safe, capable and reliable cars is being recognised across the industry.”
Once again, Subaru have shown that through impressive development and careful use of brand new technology the all-new Forester e-BOXER – the first self-charging hybrid from Subaru – is safer than ever and comes with a suite of driver-assist and safety features as standard, including: EyeSight driver assist technology (providing Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and other functions), Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection and Reverse Automatic Braking.
The What Car? Technology Award is the third notable accolade for all-new Forester since it launched at the end of 2019. The latest Forester model has also been named Euro NCAP’s Best in Class 2019 in the Small Off-Road / MPV class and 4×4 Magazine’s Best Small SUV of the Year 2020.
