The rather excellent Mitsubishi L200 has successfully defended its title of ‘Best Pickup’ at the Carbuyer Awards 2018, winning the award for the second consecutive year at today’s presentation ceremony at the Curzon Bloomsbury Cinema in London.
The awards’ judging panel voted the Mitsubishi L200 its winner after the iconic pickup impressed with its high standard specification, on- and off-road performance and value.
Stuart Milne, Editor of Carbuyer, shared with MotorMartin that: “Mitsubishi has made a name for producing tough vehicles and the L200 is unquestionably its best pickup yet. The latest model packs plenty of equipment, some neat detailing and a punchy 2.4-litre diesel engine that’s capable of hauling over three tonnes. Its four-wheel-drive system means it’s as capable off the road as it is on it. Despite all this, it can return a claimed 40mpg-plus, making it pleasingly cost-effective.”
Explaining to MotorMartin, Lance Bradley, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “The L200 has been core to the Mitsubishi range for over 30 years and it has played a very significant role in establishing the brand’s reputation for quality, dependable vehicles. We are delighted that Carbuyer has once again recognised its many attributes and voted the Mitsubishi L200 to be the best pickup around, especially as the sector is growing considerably and is the most competitive it has ever been.”
Since its introduction in July 2015, the latest, Series 5 Mitsubishi L200 has won numerous awards. Priced from £18,500.00 (CV List Price), the Mitsubishi L200 is available in single, club and double cab body styles. Powered by a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine and benefiting from the manufacturer’s advanced four-wheel drive technology, the pickup offers a payload of up to 1,060kg and a towing capacity of up to 3.1 tonnes (braked).
It’s been confirmed to MotorMartin that the Best Car features on Carbuyer.co.uk and the awards that underpin them have been ranked by Carbuyer’s dedicated road-test team, which collectively have dozens of years of experience and have tested thousands of cars. To determine the category winners, the team mark every eligible vehicle on running costs, comfort, practicality, reliability and safety, as well as performance, engines, price, value for money and optional extras.
