News: READERS VOTE FOR THEIR FAVOURITE HOT HATCH OF ALL TIME AHEAD OF AUTOCAR AWARDS 2018

Autocar have let it be known to MotorMartin that they have called upon their readers to vote for their favourite hot hatch of all time ahead of the Autocar Awards, due to take place on the evening of 15 May at Silverstone.

The Readers’ Champion award, Autocar say, gives their readers a voice in one of the most prestigious Awards in the automotive industry.

This year, readers are being asked to vote for their favourite hot hatch of all time from a list of 31 ‘hot hatch heroes’ via this link: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/autocar-awards-readers-champion

The voting list features an eclectic range of vehicles, shining the spotlight on some of the earliest hot hatches to enter the market, as well as many of the modern greats. Readers have until 11.59pm on Thursday 15 March to cast their vote.

The Readers’ Champion Award has fast become a mainstay of the Autocar Awards, calling for votes on many of the industry’s hotly-debated topics. Last year’s award saw Autocar readers name the Volkswagen Golf GTI as the most influential car in motoring history.

Hot hatches have long been a driver’s favourite for their ability to mix everyday usability and affordability with the thrills of a performance car, with many reaching iconic status.

Mark Tisshaw, Editor at Autocar commented to MotorMartin recently that: “The Autocar Awards brings together and celebrates the most influential people and cars in the industry and giving our readers a voice in that has become an essential part of the process.”

“This year’s vote is set to be one of the most hotly-contested yet. The hot hatch segment has long been one of the most competitive segments in the industry, so we’re excited to see what our readers name as their favourite of all time.”

It’s been explained to MotorMartin that the Readers’ Champion is just one of the many honours up for grabs in the highly-coveted Autocar Awards, which celebrates the best cars on the market and the brightest talents within the industry. Other accolades on the night include the Issigonis Trophy, presented to the individual who has contributed the most to the health, excellence and competitiveness of the European motor industry, and the Sturmey Award, named after Autocar’s founding editor, Henry Sturmey, which salutes innovation and achievement in the motor industry.

The Readers’ Champion, along with all of the other winners, will be announced at the highly anticipated awards evening on Tuesday, 15 May at Silverstone’s iconic Wing Complex and MotorMartin cannot wait.
