MG Motor UK have shared with MotorMartin how they have maintained their excellent start to the year in February, recording their 28th consecutive month of volume and market share growth with a 97% increase in sales versus the same period last year.
Placing style, practicality and value for money at the heart of its offering, 883 exciting new MG models found homes during February despite a declining automotive market overall. MG also delivered a strong proposition in terms of market share (1.1%), making it three months in a row that MG has achieved a share in excess of 1%. The marque, once again, remains the fastest growing car manufacturer in the UK.
Accounting for 28% of the brand’s sales volume, the hugely popular ZS EV all-electric SUV continues to win the hearts of buyers across the country. Offering efficient and practical, zero-emission motoring without breaking the bank, the truly affordable EV has secured a podium position as one of the best-selling electric cars by volume industry-wide in the UK.
With plenty of space for all the family and a generous range complimented by its rapid charge capability, ZS EV continues to outperform MG’s aspiring sales targets as the marque looks to establish itself as a key player in the electric vehicle sector. Many ZS EV buyers are already enjoying the benefits that zero-emissions motoring can bring, along with MG’s key hallmarks of price, practicality, technology and style.
Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG Motor UK, shared the following with MotorMartin recently: “Consistent and sustained growth continues to be a priority for MG and we are delighted that our positive February results bucked the market trend. 2020 is set to be a pivotal year for the MG brand as we look to further increase the number of exceptional franchised dealers in our network and achieve our Momentum & Growth mid-term plan target of 30,000 sales by the end of the year. With our year to date sales already up by a healthy 127%, and our overall market share standing at 1.2%, we’re confident that MG is firmly on track to achieve our targets, bringing our well-built and well-equipped model range to a bigger audience than ever before. ZS EV in particular has spearheaded our sales and has given the MG brand real impetus as one of the only manufacturers able to supply the growing demand for EVs.”
The manufacturer’s established models have also enjoyed sales success during February. Full to the brim with personality and personalisation options, it’s no surprise that the marque’s smallest model, MG3, saw retail sales double when compared to the same month last year. Available with a vibrant range of colours and decals on offer, MG recently enhanced the MG3 line-up, adding the Exclusive Nav trim level for just £200 more than the standard MG3 Exclusive. Boasting features such as DAB radio and Apple Car Play, the Exclusive Nav adds in-built iGo satellite navigation, making MG3 the perfect small-car addition to busy and dynamic households.
Buyers have also continued to enjoy the spacious and stylish MG ZS, with a substantial 67% growth in retail sales versus February 2019. Available with either a capable 1.5-litre manual or 1.0-litre turbocharged automatic powertrain, customers can get behind the wheel from just £12,495 OTR. Select MG ZS models are also available, for a limited time only, with a four-year 0% APR PCP finance deal. Also performing well is the brand’s flagship, the All New MG HS mid-sized SUV, which is available just £17,995 OTR.
